Turkey Wool Anadol Rug - 3.80 x 3.02 SquareRug weaving started in Turkey since 13th century with the arrival of the Seljuks , who were nomadic tribes from central Asia. In Ottoman Turkey, weaving patterns and techniques changed in the early sixteenth century after conquests in Persia and Egypt. Anatolia had been known for carpets with stylized animal and geometric designs, but with these new cultural contacts, carpets designed around a central medallion and with flowing saz style vegetation

The overall impact of the composition is outstanding and is showered in the main body of the field with delightful motifs and abounding vines that spin and curve in what appears to be a never ending space

It is a silk carpet designed by master designer  Ahmadi and is made of silk from the city of Qum

there is the presence of camels (meaning wealth – perhaps oil wells would be more immediately understood today as carrying this meaning) and the inscription which promises at the end of endurance more soulful and spiritual rewards such as unity and loyalty

one also finds carpets of the Bakhtiari

measuring 34′ x 17′

To the Western eye the motif that is repeated over the field is likely to be described as a paisley design

It is a lovely central medallion carpet that radiates out to become more pastels and then burnt orange

The main border also contains magnificent boteh patterns together with an abundance of other floral motifs

and we have only ever a small glimpse of that

which reduces their deterioration
