The Empty Quarter Frame:whiteView of one of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party's camels in the Dhafara sands in the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali). each equipped with four rowing oars

Behind them the sea stretches out empty and uninterrupted to the far horizon

the carving is now understood by scholars to represent a supernatural crocodilian
